8 Favourite Natural & Clean Deodorants
First of all let me start this post by saying that finding a good natural deodorant has been like looking for the holy grail, and I’ve come to understand that no natural deodorant will give 100% results to everyone all the time (but let’s be honest neither do the toxic ones!) I’ve been using natural deodorants for the past 2 years, and they work I’d say 95% of the time, but some days maybe you sweat a little more than usual, or you get stress sweats (you know the ones!) or perhaps you’ve gone back to using a conventional deodorant for a hot second and your pits are mad at you.
About that, if you’re reading this and you’ve either:
a) never tried a natural deodorant.
b) you have but went back to an aluminium/toxic one, back and forth
Then listen up.. YOU NEED TO WAIT A GOOD MONTH FOR YOUR ARMPITS TO DETOX!
I’m not saying this lightly, this is the reason that most people give up on natural deodorants because they don’t give their bodies the time to clear out all the heavy metals and what not clogging their pores, which makes them stinky. So yes, this is the catch, you might have to be a bit smelly for a few weeks, but I promise once you’re over the hump, it’s all worth it!
You will, however, have to go through it again, if you go back (which I sometimes do when I’ve run out, or I KNOW I’m going to need extra strength because I’m doing something stressful in public haha and need the toxic stuff for a day.. it happens!)
There are some ways to make the process a little faster, you can do a little armpit homemade mask - I’m serious!! All you need is:
-
1 tbsp of bentonite clay
-
1 tbsp of apple cider vinegar (raw unfiltered)
-
1 or 2 tbsp of water
Mix together into a smooth paste. Rub onto your armpits and leave it there for 5 to 20min (it might create a bit of redness if you have sensitive skin but should be harmless) do this daily until you feel a difference, a week or two should do the trick!
Up your Chlorophyll intake, did you know that chlorophyll is nature’s deodorant? Eat your greens...!! Consider taking a wheatgrass powder supplement or Spirulina or even Chlorella ( I like to add mine to my daily green smoothies, or take it in pill form)
You also need to know that natural deodorants don’t stop you from sweating, they stop you from smelling, there’s a huge difference and aside from their clean ingredients this is what makes them 100 times better for your health.
In saying that over the past year I’ve tried my fair share of deodorants and here are my favourites, which worked for me. You might have to try a couple before finding the one that’s best for you, but also remember that you need to give any of them a good go for at least a month, and if one stops working try something else for a bit, come back to it or remember to detox your armpits once in a while.
(All products below are of course vegan and cruelty-free, and the links below are affiliate links)
-
Sukin Natural Deodorant :
This is my latest find and I’ve been loving using it because it’s a nice refreshing spray, I love the smell of it too, it’s a mix of lavender, tangerine mandarin and vanilla! They are a carbon-neutral company, the deodorant is vegan, cruelty-free and the packaging is recyclable. Really clean ingredients - I recognise every single one of them which is always a good sign.
-
Kopari Coconut :
This deodorant has my heart, the effectiveness, the scent (like a dreamy beach holiday!) it was actually my first ever non-toxic deodorant I bought and have used it for the better part of this year, but the only issue to me is the packaging - which they claim to be recyclable, but it’s quite bulky and because it’s a stick system, I’m not sure if it just wouldn’t end in a landfill. They are working on making some of their products to be refillable I’ve heard, so here’s hoping! I can’t fault it otherwise.
-
Jason :
A recent try which I really like, not 100% sold on the scent (we tried their tea tree oil one, and it just doesn’t smell like tea tree at all?!) but it works! Vegan and cruelty-free of course. I really want to try their lavender one.
-
The Natural Deodorant Grapefruit & Mint :
This one is just such a winner, it’s also in a glass jar, the cleanest ingredients ever! I love the smell of this grapefruit and mint one but they have many other scents too, and one more ‘manly’ one for the men in your life too! (although M just uses whatever I get and loves it haha)
-
Nuud :
The concept of nuud is not something I’ve seen elsewhere! they call themselves a predeodorant.. because instead of disguising the smell they prevent it altogether with the use of SILVER! (no nanoparticles don’t fret!) Their ingredients are super minimal and clean too. It took a bit more time getting used to it but I really like it! Their packaging is also made of sugarcane, and it’s teeny tiny because it’s super concentrated so you only need a little bit every time.
-
Corpus :
This is the fanciest natural deodorant I’ve found and it just smells divine! It’s so beautiful! they have a range of different scents, I love their woodsy ones! Their ingredients are clean, it’s vegan and cruelty-free of course, the only downside is the plastic packaging, which is partly made from recycled plastic, but not ideal.
-
Aurelia Probiotic Deodorant :
Another great cream product, which is also in an amber glass jar (great to reuse too for homemade products!) I haven’t personally tried this one, but a few friends have and loved it! I thought I’d add it in because I also really love that brand so I know it’s a goodie! Great ingredients too, and love the fact that it’s not in plastic.
-
Make Your Own :
I thought I’d mention a homemade recipe if you’re more of a DIY kind of person, which I totally am! (I love to make my own laundry powder, I’ve made shower gel and other scrubs and face masks myself, which reminds me I need to share these with you - the laundry powder recipe is actually in a highlight on my Instagram btw) I really like this one, if you have the time and you’re into it then give it a go!! (make sure to detox your armpits first!) this one sounds promising too, they’re all quite similar and are all super easy to make!
