One Year

Last Tuesday we celebrated being together for one year. One year of adventures, I can hardly believe it! It has gone so fast.. it's a wonderful blur of happiness. I have never really shared much about us because it feels so personal but I figured, I really should give you the short version if anything...!

We have known each other for a very long time... 13 something years to be exact! Our dads have been friends since they were our age, which goes a long way! Somehow we didn't meet until we were 12/13 years old. Michael's family bought a house in the South of France - very close to our house (5min drive to be exact..!) - which meant that we spent most summers together.

At 12 I didn't care one thing about boys. I thought they were mean and smelly. Mostly smelly. He would be playing football and beating me at darts and drowning me in the pool during many fearless games of waterpolo, but I didn't mind him too much. He wasn't too smelly ;)

Things changed slightly when we both turned 17/18 - I didn't think boys were mean or smelly anymore, far from it. So we started 'hanging out', sort of in secret at the beginning, but when you're a teenager, being discrete isn't really your thing. So it wasn't too long until everyone knew.

At the end of the summer, we had to say our goodbyes, there were tears (mostly on my side), it was a little dramatic but I knew we would see each other again next summer. We then both started university, me in Kent, him in Oxford. We visited each other a couple of times but quickly got distracted by the wonders of freedom in the first year at university!

We always stayed in touch, and kept on bumping into each other here and there, mostly down at our houses in France, then later in London when we both started working full time. We would catch up over food, always trying all the newest trendy places around London. He was always at the back of my mind, alway thinking 'what if..' - but then I decided to leave everything and everyone and spend a year in Australia, what a year that was!

We both did some growing up and it wasn't long until I came back with a suitcase full of memories and stories to tell. I remember one rainy evening before Christmas, I had just got back from Australia/Bali/India and met up with M for a catch up, I remember being all nervous, was it still the same between us? It didn't take long for me to realise that he still made my palms all sweaty and my heart beat fast! All the butterflies...

Christmas went by, we spent New Year's Eve together, cheering to new adventures - little did we know that a few months later we would be together for REAL, and happier than ever. It was scary, exciting and beautiful all at the same time. I never doubted for a second that he would make me the happiest girl in the world.

Happy One Year my love!

Ps: Surprise! I gave this place a little face lift! I needed a fresh start.. I hope you like it? Have a look around and let me know if there's anything you'd like to see on here? It's still a work in progress, as I need to go through 4 years worth of content and categorise it all, but you know me, I was too impatient to wait!
