A home away from home

I arrived in Sydney with one suitcase & one small backpack for one year. As you can imagine they were mostly filled with...clothes (& camera/laptop equipment...) The bare minimum. Packing was a real nightmare let me tell you!

I was extremely lucky to move into this beautiful little flat on the North Shore. When I first arrived I didn't actually own a bed or anything else for that matter.. I have been slowly adding new bits & bobs, buying the essentials when it comes to furniture (which I will hopefully manage to sell before I move back home) & a few pieces to make the place a little bit more homey.

It doesn't matter how long you stay somewhere (unless you're on holiday of course!) I feel like it is always worth investing in a few things that make you feel at home, that makes the place that little extra comfortable & cosy. When you are away for a long time, you need to create a space that makes you feel at home again, a space you are happy to come back to every day.

For me that was mainly through a few of things like nice bed sheets, a couple of candles, a nice retro alarm clock, fairy lights, some fresh flowers...small things that makes this room my own (those beautiful tulips are my birthday flowers from my favourite girls!).

Luckily I moved in with two girls with great taste, who came in with a lot of furniture, enough kitchen appliances for at least 2 houses & extra little bits that makes me LOVE this flat even more...!

What do you do to make yourself feel at home when you are away from home??
