Making Lists 06 | Pros & Cons of living in Italy by Natalie

  1. Rachel says:

I really, really enjoyed this, and I think it has to be my favourite ‘Making Lists’ so far – it puts the one I wrote about what is great about being a food writer in London for Tania to shame!

I think it was particularly interesting to hear about the less than rosy side of things in Milan, because they are things you really don’t notice, and the little notes about positives and negatives you left at the end about living in a different culture from your own. I live between England and France, and while I’m British and I spend the bulk of my time there, French culture has always been familiar to me, and there is an element of it that seems like ‘home’, so I take French cultural negatives the same I take British ones. However, when I lived in America for a year while so many of the positives made me fall a bit in love with it, I was shocked by the bits the rest of the world does not see; the filthy streets, Los Angeles’ traffic problems and lack of suitable public transport (yes, I feel your pain!!) and their terrible homeless problem that simply would not happen on the same scale as it does over there in a European country.

Thank you Rachel, I’m glad you liked it! When we visit a country for a couple of days we see only its beautiful side, we don’t have time for the bad things. But living is another thing, it asks patience and acceptance 🙂

  2. From what I’ve seen on my trips to Italy, I can relate to this. Although, I don’t think I could ever get weary of pasta and pizza!

Hi Tania, Natalie, what a lovely post. I find it really refreshing to hear about others’ experiences living abroad, both the positives and negatives! It’s not always perfection, but not many talk about that! Have a lovely day. Ailish at http://ailishgoes.blogspot.de

I love this list idea, I should make on for Belgium 🙂 It’s always good to weigh up the pros and cons in life.

It’s that time of the year again when all that matters is CHOCOLATE and HOT CROSS BUNS!!! Now if you can combine the two… then you have a winning combo in my opinion. I can’t quite believe it’s been a whole year since I last made and shared these (they were in a collab with […]
